Central to Dingo Den Animal Rescue’s six public-facing pillars (Rescue, Den Keeping, Sanctuary, Fundraising & Partnerships, Service Security & Sustainability, and Communications), the Presidency Pillar exists as a hexagonal hinge promoting direction, synergy, cohesion, and stability for the organisation’s thirty-six portfolios, scores of projects and national network of volunteers.
The President’s role is to provide strategic direction and governance, propagate honest and dependable leadership tiers, direct the responsible collation and coordination of resources, and perpetuate a team culture of integrity and passion that equips Dingo Den Animal Rescue to fulfil its mandate of saving the wild-hearted.
Perhaps the most important, yet least visible aspect of Dingo Den Animal Rescue, is the organisation’s strategic portfolio.
This foundation stone tackles the big-ticket items of who we are, where we’re going, what we do, and how, why and when we do it.
Practically this looks like daily evaluations and decision-making, regular meetings and ongoing reviews. This portfolio sets the organisation on course for long term success.
DDAR’s Leadership Committee, also known as the Board of Directors, is responsible for keeping the organisation on course to meet its vision and strategy, which in legal terms is the organisation’s charitable objectives that were established when the charity was founded (see here).
The President, who also fulfils the role as the Board Chair, leads the committee to effectively govern Dingo Den Animal Rescue.
With forty-two portfolios constituting the organisation’s six outward-facing pillars, the President’s role in providing support to each pillar’s manager and its team members is crucial.
The President provides pillar manager mentoring, team training, project reviews, communication approvals, and general advice and support to equip, empower and sustain DDAR’s volunteer team.
Supporting team members is at the heart of DDAR's Hero-Warrior brand archetype. Comradery and team service motivates DDAR's President to foster a group of like minded individuals who are supportive and protective of each person's mission and welfare.
Spread across the country and belonging to a range of age groups, cultures, and industries, DDAR’s human resource is diverse in capability and commitment.
Responsibilities in this portfolio include the placement of suitable volunteers in key roles, development and mentoring of leaders, promotion of DDAR’s core values, and equitable management of individuals.
Underpinning these activities is the fundamental objective of all volunteers understanding DDAR’s vision and working cohesively to achieve its mandate.
Because DDAR is a registered Australian charity with Donation Goods Recipient (DGR) status and a license to fundraise in NSW, we are accountable to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), and NSW Fair Trading.
With the assistance of internal and external resources, the President ensures DDAR’s legal accountabilities and mandatory financial reporting requirements are met.
Creating an effective organisation requires partnerships with a range of stakeholders - privately owned businesses, charities, non-government organisations, community groups, government organisations and media outlets.
A chief responsibility of DDAR’s President is to network with the leaders of these organisations to create opportunities that will benefit the future of Australian wildlife and land care management.
